Getting Katy
Driving to the office where we'll get Katy, all kinds of emotions flood my mind…..prior adoptions, trying to remember what life was like before our other children, and I can't. Will it be the same with Katy? Will she be happy to see us and go with us? What if she doesn't? What if she acts out? What if……OK, stop that. Think about the call you know you received from God to love these children. Yes, that is for sure. We hop off the bus, ride the elevator up to the 8th floor, walk in the room….where it feels like we met Samuel just the other day, but it was 14 months ago…..and behind the curtain, the first child we see is Katy peeking out. She saw us before we saw her, and she smiled and started waving with both arms and jumping up and down smiling. In a split second, I knew she was happy to see us.
We were the first couple to "match" with our child. There were around 12 families also there to meet their children for the first time.
Katy came out and said, "Hello," very clear in English. She knows quite a few English words. She smiled and gave us hugs. Has really bonded with Leah and Wendi, wanting to hold their hands, and calls them gigi and mama (big sister and mom).
We showed her pictures of all her family members back home, and she asked why Leah got to come and the others couldn't.
She seems a bit….well, um….bossy and strong willed! She doesn't mind telling us what to do (and we just met!).
Dinner, a bath, and clean pajamas.
The sweetest little girl, smiling and hoping around the room.
Just seeing her…..looking at her independence and happy personality, I can't wait to get to know her better!
It seems we've waited so long, and now she's my daughter.
How cool is that.
